"Our first pilgrimage, naturally, was to the Whisky a Go Go. Standing before its unassuming brick façade, I closed my eyes and could almost hear the ghosts: Jim Morrison’s raging raw poetry, Janis Joplin shredding her voice with every note, Led Zeppelin blowing the crowd’s minds, Guns N’ Roses detonating onstage before they were anybody. Buffalo Springfield, Foo Fighters, Zappa, Hendrix, and every poet with a song who wandered down from Laurel Canyon to paint the world in music. This wasn’t just another club, this was the crucible where so much of the music that defined generations was forged. The marquee, jutting from its rounded corner, still hummed with the defiant spirit of every band that had graced the Whisky’s stage, fuelled by cheap beer and a dream. Out front, roadies were offloading a truck and setting up the equipment for that evening’s performance. We drifted past them like ghosts ourselves, slipping in through the stage loading door without fanfare. Inside, the air was still, and nobody seemed to notice or care that we didn’t belong. But as far as we were concerned, we did. I walked the space slowly, reverently, checking out every photograph and bit of memorabilia clinging to the walls like holy relics. From the dimly lit upper balcony, I looked down over the main floor, empty and still, but resonating with more than fifty years of sweat, dreams, and chemical fuelled genius. From where pumped-up revellers have witnessed half a century’s worth of some of the more defining moments in music. In the quiet, you could almost hear the feedback of the last fifty years. Sunlight cut through the loading doors in sharp, dusty bars, illuminating the now silent corner stage. I stood there and felt it, the residual heat of raw talent and musical energy still baked into the walls" - Excerpt from What If? by Mike Montague - Amazon Books

I came here last week to see Bleed the Fifth and Tommy Vext. There is valet parking behind the building. Bring cash. The crowd at Whiskey a Go Go was pretty diverse in age, which was cool to see. My husband and I ordered chicken strips, they were surprisingly good. The drinks were decent but a little on the weak side. We bought tickets that included a table-which I recommend. The venue will tape your name to the table that is reserved so there are no mix ups. The view was great from the balcony and if you want to enjoy the music and avoid any potential mosh pits, this is the way to go. The venue itself is a good size if you want to be at an event without getting lost. It’s intimate enough that everyone can see the band from the bottom and top floors. The sound and lighting was great too. The staff were helpful except for the woman selling shirts. She was particularly rude and nasty for no reason. Overall, we had an amazing time and enjoyed the music very much. I recommend coming here especially if Tommy Vext is playing. The other bands were amazing as well!
